Barbara Shegog, CFA, CPA
Barbara joined the Squam Lakes Financial Advisors team in 2021. She brings decades of experience in investment management, economics, and business.
Numbers are Music to Barbara’s Ears
For such a numbers person, you would think Barbara would be an extreme introvert. Not even close. In fact, her dream connection would be Justin Timberlake. “Maybe because his best friend is Jimmy Fallon, or maybe because he is an amazing entertainer and just makes people smile with his songs–you know you can’t stop the feeling,” shared Barbara.
Barbara enjoys meeting new people and working with clients on financial planning allows her to do that every day. She’s also very empathetic; people often share their stories with her, an essential component in understanding clients, their motivations, and their goals. Barbara describes it as, “the uncanny ability to figure out what people need without ever asking them.” Barbara believes that having financial confidence allows all the pieces of one’s life to fall into place.
On the flip side, Barbara describes herself as incredibly trusting and fair which, she feels, isn’t easy to be in what can be a very unfair world. Barbara believes one person can make a difference, especially in the lives of others.
Bringing Financial Confidence to Clients
When Jimmy and Justin decide to have Barbara on the Tonight Show, she thought they should know the serious side of her, too. Barbara has worked in investment management and consulting for twenty-five years. Her most recent experience is working as a consultant for Squam Lakes Financial Advisors, providing clients with comprehensive financial planning. Every client brings a unique situation, and Barbara loves both the challenge and bringing financial confidence to clients with every plan.
Barbara earned a Master of Business Administration from Boston University and graduated from Lafayette College with a bachelor’s degree in economics and business. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). Her previous professional experience includes working in investment management as a relationship manager for Arrowstreet Capital and for State Street Global Advisors managing their Corporate Cash Investment Management Group. Barbara has previously facilitated peer networking groups for Treasury professionals. Barbara is principal of BAS Capital Management, which she started in 2020 to help people manage change and build financial confidence.
When not attached to her computer analyzing data, writing blogs, or studying tax codes, Barbara can be found on the tennis court or walking her rescue dog, two of her biggest passions besides spending time with her family.
